Fuelling positive change by giving back to our local communities. From inspiring a love for science at schools to organising donations for local food banks, Pfizer colleagues have been generously devoting their time and expertise to support non-profit organisations across the UK.

Partner Programmes

Our partnership programmes are designed to accelerate positive impact on the social determinants of health - part of our responsibility as a healthcare business. We work closely with our established partners to drive positive change in local communities and underrepresented groups. Our colleagues can join our partner programmes to support the mentoring of young people, to improve access to sports for people with disabilities, and to inspire the pursuit of STEM careers.

Envision - Building core skills for underrepresented young people

We believe that investing in the personal and professional development of younger generations is paramount to building a brighter and more sustainable future for all. In support of this pursuit, Pfizer is a key partner of Envision, who run programmes that equip young people with essential skills and the confidence needed to tackle pressing issues affecting their local communities. These issues are identified by students as part of the 12-week programme and range from tackling racism and food poverty, to mental health and climate change.

Four key skills are built across the programme in young people who possess a spark, but are not yet able to thrive at school: communication, creativity, determination, and teamwork. These are developed and put to the test through 12 practical sessions run by expert Envision facilitators. Our Pfizer colleagues bring their experience by joining the students for 3 sessions, acting as business mentors and skill-builders for the students who ultimately present their social impact idea to a board of judges at ‘The Envision Final’.

"We are so grateful for our partnership with Pfizer! Your Pfizer mentor teams have been exceptional, supporting young people’s social action projects and, crucially, their essential skills development. You have also opened up a new world to them, sharing the range of things you do, and the empathy, depth and diversity of your teams. Your mentors are a critical part of our programme’s success, and your support is a critical feature of our sustainability. On behalf of everyone at Envision - thank you!"

Talent Spaces - Empowering students to consider a career in STEM

A young person’s education, or future career opportunities, should not be restricted by their social or economic background. Talent Spaces is a social impact company which aims to overcome this issue by inspiring young women, and non-binary students, from underrepresented backgrounds to shape their future through real-world learning, a strong community, and a network of employers and opportunities.

"The interest and enthusiasm shown by the young people about STEM studies and careers was incredible and proved the involvement of women in science in years to come will be strong! Guiding the group through the programme and sharing my academic and career experience in research and pharma was beneficial for both sides, and I hope my stories were inspiring!"

Anna
Rheumatology Medical Affairs Adviser, Pfizer UK

Pfizer colleagues have taken on the role of being expert mentors. The programme delivers masterclass workshops, mentorship, and coaching with the aim of preparing young women, and non binary students, at a critical stage in their education, for a career in STEM. Our colleagues work with groups of 6-7 students aged 16-17 to spark conversation, share learning and inspire the next generation.

Superhero Series – The UK’s only all access sporting event

Real superheroes don’t have to wear capes. We are proud supporters of the SuperHero Series - the only sporting event in the UK organised for people with disabilities - our 'Everyday Superheroes'. Celebrating the power of inclusivity, the two annual competitions allow its participants to feel empowered, uplifted, and unrestrained in their abilities. Since 2019, Pfizer colleagues have supported the events as loyal sidekicks, volunteering their support in many different ways. From providing glitter and water-based tattoos, to the running of arts and crafts sessions, to cheerleading at the finish line; each year our volunteers make sure to make the day super fun!

STEM Learning UK - Inspiring young people about careers in STEM

STEM Learning UK is an organisation comitted to trying to improve STEM education for all. Through their programmes, teachers are equipped with continued professional development programmes, alongside additional support from STEM ambassadors who deliver talks within schools and at career fairs.

Pfizer supports the STEM Learning UK programme by training colleagues to become ambassadors, who are then matched to local opportunities. Ambassadors inspire and guide students, offering advice and lived experience of careers in STEM.

Sense - Supporting everyone to take part in life, no matter their disability

Sense works to support disabled people to communicate and fulfil their potential. Their network of community-based centres offers residential care, specialist support and lifelong opportunities to thrive. And the other programmes they offer inspire creativity and connection, opening up the world for people who have complex disabilities.

Pfizer have joined forces with Sense to support their virtual buddying programme, signing up to help tackle chronic loneliness across the disabled community. Volunteers will connect online with a carefully matched buddy to create meaningful friendships, boost confidence, and try new games and activities during weekly one-hour sessions.

Our colleagues can also volunteer their time through helping out in a Sense charity shop, supporting at pan-disability job fairs, or getting stuck in to ad hoc events when a helping hand is needed.

Colleague Stories

Our colleagues have the opportunity to support any UK-registered charity they feel passionate about or connected to. Each year, Pfizer colleagues are empowered to take 5 volunteering days to pursue a cause close to their heart. In 2023, Pfizer UK colleagues reached over 6,500 volunteer hours1 supporting a range of activities across the country. Take a look at what they’ve been up to!

FareShareTo learn about the extent of local food poverty, several of our colleagues joined the FareShare team as delivery assistants in a shared effort to combat hunger and food waste across the United Kingdom. The team spent their day delivering food boxes to food banks, elderly care centres, schools, and charities, humbled by the time and effort invested by staff and regular volunteers in meeting the needs of our local communities.Howletts Animal ParkA great team of energetic analytical chemists went to Howletts wild animal park in Bekesbourne to spend the day volunteering. In perfect sunny weather, their time and efforts were invested in scrubbing, painting, and the maintenance of the park that offers shelter to over 390 animals. This wonderful contribution gave a second life to the park's gate and fence, with the team being fully rewarded by the sight of all the animals at the end of the day!Blackfriars Settlement Lunch ClubDuring their time at Blackfriars, our Inflammation and Immunology team prepared, cooked, served, and entertained a group of approximately 40 amazing elderly ladies and gentlemen. It was a humbling and rewarding experience where colleagues combined their generosity, hard work, and humour to collectively enrich the day of many, with their efforts rewarded by the privilege to listen to some of the members' beautiful poetry!North Wales Wildlife TrustAmong the lush green forests of North Wales Wildlife Trust, one of our colleagues joined a small team in the Tree nursery to prepare and plant cuttings of the Crack Willow as part of the Woodlands for Water project. With the aim of enhancing biodiversity and creating wildlife corridors, the team potted over 200 Crack Willow cuttings, knowing their efforts will have a real impact in the future!
