We recognise the promise, passion and knowledge talented people bring, and their potential to truly change the world by developing and delivering the medicines of tomorrow.
As one of the largest bio-pharmaceutical companies operating in the UK, we are committed to helping the UK develop the talent it needs to achieve the aspiration of being a global leader in life sciences, from the school classroom to PhDs.
Supporting Higher Education
In support of higher education institutions, we seek out inspired new talent those of who share our core values and mission of making the world a healthier place. We look to leading academic institutions as an invaluable source of new hires that share our passion for healthcare, are ready to make contributions to the cutting-edge science behind Pfizer medicines, and improve UK health.
Undergraduate Placements
Each year we recruit undergraduate degree students into our paid 12 month undergraduate placement scheme. We have a variety of undergraduates working across all of our UK business units, including our commercial and R&D businesses.
Apprenticeships
We also actively support the National Apprenticeship programme across many disciplines including science, engineering, administration and IT. Our apprentices have won the ‘2015 Science Industry Outstanding New Talent Award’ and ‘2016 Royal Society Chemistry Apprentice of the Year’ and in addition, we were proud to have been awarded the ‘Gold Employer Award’ from Apprenticeship4England in 2017.
Inspiring Young People
In the UK, our Pfizer colleagues volunteer as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) ambassadors by visiting schools, attending science fairs and hosting students. The aim of the programme is to help bring STEM subjects to life and demonstrate their value in both life and as a career.
The efforts of our STEM ambassadors were recognised in 2019 when Pfizer was awarded with the Royal Society of Chemistry’s ‘Inspiration & Industry Award’ as well as being ‘Highly Commended’ at the STEM Learning* Inspiration Awards.
To further support the work of the STEM programme, some Pfizer colleagues have trained to become SIP (Science Industry Partnership) ambassadors. This network aims to combat the potential skills gap highlighted in the government’s Life Science Industry Strategy, nurturing home-grown talent to build a globally competitive science-based industry in the UK. SIP ambassadors are industry professionals who share their knowledge and experience to inspire and enthuse young people into careers within STEM. They engage with young people, teachers, career advisors and parents to provide advice and guidance about the various opportunities available when pursuing a science-based career.
To support both of these programmes, we are involved in a number of initiatives to inspire young people including:
Working alongside the PSHE Association and National Schools Partnership, 'Superbugs: Join the fight' is designed to help raise awareness of antibiotic resistance to school children.
Providing schools near Sandwich, Kent with access to an industrial-standard laboratory.
'Lab in a Box' enables schools in the surrounding areas of Sandwich, Kent, to borrow specialist science equipment.
Request a career talk from one of our STEM/SIP ambassadors, who will outline the range of careers available within the pharmaceutical industry.
RESPONSIBILITY
We believe it’s important that young people are engaged, inspired and enthused by science.
CAREERS
Every year in the UK, we recruit undergraduate degree students onto our 12 month Undergraduate Placement Scheme.
