Growing up in Ludwigsburg, Germany, Charles Pfizer learned chemistry as an apothecary apprentice, and Charles Erhart learned about the grocery and confectionary trade. They were fascinated by the opportunity and growth they heard about in America, and in 1848, they took the biggest gamble of their lives - a six-week voyage across the Atlantic to New York. 

Since 1849, Pfizer has spent decades at the forefront of some of the most profound changes in technology and medicine. From large-scale manufacturing of pencillin, helping to save countless lives during World War II, to new therapies for heart and stroke-related illnesses, and more recently developing the first mRNA vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19. Pfizer's history is filled with groundbreaking medical science.
